State-of-the-Art Care

Celebrating the healing power of art!

State-of-the-Art Care is an initiative started by the State College region of Penn State Health to highlight the healing power of art. With one of the nation's premier juried art fairs held right in our own backyard, launching this initiative at the Central Pennsylvania Festical of the Arts was a natural choice. The initiatve was kicked off with Our Kids to Your Kids campaign featuring a 2-part interactive mural project between the kids at the Arts Festival and the patients in Penn State Health Golisano Children's Hospital in Hershey.

2026 marks our 5th year as a Presenting Sponsor at the Arts Festival and we're thrilled to continue building a bridge of hope, creativity and smiles between the streets of State College and the rooms of the Penn State Health Children's Hospital in Hershey, PA. The activities begin on Kids Day and run throughout the festival at the Penn State Health Kids Zone in the MLK Plaza. Join us for this special and fun-filled activity and share your encouragement and support with kids and families battling severe health issues.

See What Impressions You've Made!

For the past three years, we created a double-sided mural banner that was painted by the kids at Arts Fest, and then by patients and their families at Penn State Health Golisano Children's Hospital in Hershey!

The Meaning Behind The Murals

These two collaborative murals celebrate the heart and unity of Penn State Health through the eyes and hands of our communities.

Hand Print Side: This side showcases the colorful hand prints of Penn State Health providers, nurses and staff reaching out across a stitched road – symbolizing Route 322, the vital link between our community and the Penn State Health Children's Hospital in Hershey. Along this shared path are illustrations of our local health centers and the hospital itself, illustrating how, together, we form one caring and connected family.

Puzzle Piece Side: This side features a vibrant quilt of puzzle pieces, each uniquely designed and painted by children to reflect the compassion, strength, and hope within our care. At its center is the iconic Nittany Lion, surrounded by joyful portraits, uplifting messages and symbols of healing – stitched together like a comforting quilt, reminding us that while we are all different, yet we are united in love and support.
