What is Physical Therapy?

Physical therapy is a conservative, evidence-based treatment that utilizes educational and physical tools to help manage and improve signs or symptoms that limit patients' daily activities.

Treatment plans may include:

Manual therapy to relieve tightness, trigger points and referred pain

Therapeutic exercise to strengthen specific muscular weakness and improve imbalances

Neuromuscular techniques to improve muscle activations and coordination

Whether you are recovering from surgery, rehabbing a sports injury or just trying to stay active, physical therapy provides tools to support your independence, mobility and quality of life.

Sprains and Strains
Sprains are an injury to a ligament, while strains are an injury to muscle and they require different treatment. These can often happen from sports, recreation, yard work or everyday chores. A physical therapist will be able to accurately assess the type of injury you have and provide you with the proper treatment options.

Joint Pain?
Knee, hip, back, shoulder and other joint aches and pains can often be improved through corrective therapy. Ask your primary care provider or specialist to write you a prescription for physical therapy.

Rehabbing from Surgery?
Post-surgery PT helps restore normal movement to the joint, strengthen muscles and improve circulation. We accept patients with physical therapy orders from any surgeon.

Laser therapy treatment affects tissue at a cellular level. It increases cellular metabolism to promote tissue healing and decreased pain levels. Laser therapy is used to treat acute, sub-acute and chronic conditions including strains, sprains, OA and tendinopathy.

Blood flow restriction training is a treatment option to optimize muscle performance. BFR is performed by taking the blood pressure of the upper or lower extremity and eliminating 80% of the blood flow to that region. This technique is thought to stimulate a high aerobic environment where muscles experience approximately the same level of restriction. The patient then performs exercises such as squats, bicep curls, leg extensions, etc. With blood flow elimination, muscle strength can be improved at an increased rate with lower loads and stress to the soft tissue and joints.

An anti-gravity treadmill reduces the percentage of body-weight pressure that occurs through the lower extremities. This is helpful in treating patients with weight bearing restrictions, gait abnormalities and ambulatory weakness. This treatment is often used to help patients return to jogging or running. It also allows patients to practice gait biomechanics with a decreased risk of injury.
